Bubble baths aren’t just all fluff and fragrance; they’re also good for your mind and your body. Even during the most nerve-wrecking and challenging day, ten minutes in a tub of warm water brings me back to myself.
Fascinatingly, my post 10 Things To Do While Relaxing in the Tub is my most popular post by far. It gets the most views daily. So, I’ve decided to compose a part two with even more bubbles of ideas.
The most simple and expected thing to do in a bubble bath is to lean back and close your eyes. This little act can lift pounds off your shoulders.
Here’s 10 more things you can do while basking in a tub of bubbles:
1. Your nails. It mind sound counterintuitive, but the bath is actually a really effective space for me to do my nails (hands or feet). Why? Because outside of the tub, I am always tempted to move around, pick something up, fix my hair. Inevitably, my mini masterpieces get smudged or scratched. In the tub, I can’t move, so while the nails dry, I lean back and rest. Tip: Make sure your nails are dry before painting. When I do my feet I keep them by the spigot rather than in the water. It’s the same for my fingers. My mani/pedi materials I keep next to me on the bath mat, alongside a dry hand towel.
2. I-phone/I-pad games. Yep. It’s risky; you might drop your phone into the fragrant swamp, but playing a game on my ipad takes me miles away from whatever is stressing me out. Tip: Use a bath tray to place your device on. This way, you never have to worry about dropping it into the water. When I’m really lazy, I just reach over the side of the tub a little with the device, so that if I do drop it, it lands on the bath mat. It’s important to keep a hand towel near you so you can dry off your hands.
3. Write lists. They can be To Do lists, or they can be “5 Things to be Thankful for” lists. They can be lists of movies you still want to see, or new goals you want to aim for. Whatever your list ends up being, the tub is a great place to make it. There are no distractions, so you can really focus on your own needs and ideas. Tip: Use pencil, not pen. I just usually put a little notebook on the side of the tub and turn a little to write on it. You can also use a bath tray.
4. Make the call. Here’s where speakerphone comes in handy. I don’t recommend making a stressful phone call, but I do suggest taking the time to call your good friend that lives in a different state, or your sibling who you haven’t checked up on in a while. We might think a lot about the people we miss, but perhaps we should also let them know we are thinking of them. Tip: When I do this, I dry my hands with the hand towel I put on the bath mat, dial the number and leave the phone on the ground next to the tub while I talk. Of course a bath tub tray works well for this too.
5. Watch a movie. Whoooa, sounds dangerous! Hello, water, electricity?! Indeed, it can be dangerous if you rest your television on the side of your tub. I don’t recommend this. What I have done though is plugged in my little dvd combo television where I usually plug in the nightlight. The tv rests on the bathroom counter–FAR AWAY from the tub. You get to watch whatever film you want in the ambiance and comfort of a warm bath. Tip: I’ve also watched a movie on an ipad I placed on top of the toilet. Again–not near the water!
6. Fizz and sparkle. Have fun with bath bombs, fizzies, bath confetti, oil and the million other amazing and almost magical products they are making out there. My all time favorite bath candy is sold by Lush. They are the experts of natural bath bombs.
7. Mantra-mania. While you’re in the bath, verbally or mentally repeat a mantra of your choice. You can also use the bath time to design/write a mantra that you think will enrich/enhance your mental stability. Then–you can practice it. One I’ve been using lately is “I am thankful.” Enjoy the magic of Zen.
8. Write a letter. Yes. An old-fashioned snail mail message. It might be a letter to your grandmother, boyfriend or a person across the globe. Take the time to really appreciate the person you’re writing to as well as share what you’re up to lately. By connecting in a more thorough way with another, you gain the opportunity to assess your own circumstances. Tip: Consider the letter you write in the tub as a draft, in pencil. It’ll probably get splashed with some bubble. Afterwards, you can rewrite it nicely– when you’re not immersed in water.
9. Imagine & envision. Sometimes life is so hectic “I can’t even hear myself think!” For example, I might plan on using my evening walk with the dog to take a few moments to brainstorm dinner or potential work outfits for the week. Then, we will run in to four neighbors also walking their dogs. Grumpy cars will zoom by us, desperate to get home. Simply put, the time I thought I had to think disappears. In the tub, I can make light plans for the evening or decide on a theme for a party I’m supposed to be planning. Essentially, in the bath, you can think without disruption.
10. Play with makeup. My cousin recently sent me an incredible package of high quality makeup products. I was drooling. I got the package Monday, and I still haven’t been able to use many of the products because on weekdays I have no time to experiment with makeup early in the morning. As much as I’m dying to try the contour stick and orchid lipstick, I can’t risk a setback in time so early in the morning. But! In the tub, I don’t have to worry about the mess of experimenting with new products and looks. I don’t have to rush. I can use the face mirror; I set it on the side of the tub. I can just wipe off the mess ups with tissue paper and bath water.
